Woodland District Athletics Championships
On Friday the 2nd of June, 30 students represented Sirius College at the Woodlands District Athletic Championships, at Meadowglen Athletics Track.
Even though the carnival was held through Ramadan we had many students attend trails run at lunchtimes to be selected for this team. Students are to be commended on their efforts on the day. Special mention to Ameena Kanj qualifying for regionals in the maximum 5 events! Ameena had some amazing results. She Triple Jumped nearly 2m further than her nearest competitors, her Shot Put results were 1m further then her nearest rival and she ran 1 second faster in the 100m sprint. Selma Custovic threw 1m further than her competitors in Javelin to also qualified for the Northern Regions Carnival to be held in September. Congratulations to these girls and best of luck in the next level of competition.
Overall, Sirius College had some great results for the day, especially since this is the first time Sirius has competed at District Athletics, and that we have not hosted our own school level carnival yet. This will be held in Term 4.
